On September 3, with the support of the City of Mississauga, the Jiahemay Senior Association successfully launched the Golden Melody series (10 sessions in total). The first session attracted nearly 50 seniors to participate enthusiastically, with 9 volunteers providing full support to ensure that every participant could join smoothly.
Through interactive music and rhythm activities, seniors enjoyed a joyful atmosphere while experiencing the fun of music. The program also helps to enhance cognitive abilities, physical coordination, and flexibility, while fostering social interaction and a sense of belonging. Laughter filled the room, and participants expressed their eagerness to join the remaining 9 sessions.
This project aims to encourage seniors to actively participate in community life, make new friends, strengthen their sense of belonging, and improve both physical and mental well-being. On August 27, 2025, the Jiahemay Senior Association held a successful cultural performance at Silverthorn Care Community. The performers ranged in age from teenagers to seniors over 80, showcasing intergenerational participation and cultural heritage.
The audience at the care home was fully engaged, nodding, applauding, smiling, and even interacting with the performers. This marked the association’s third visit to the facility, and they have been invited again to bring more joy and care during the Lunar New Year.
The smooth execution of the performance was made possible by the hard work behind the scenes. The president personally assisted members with transportation and prepared the sound system; the vice president coordinated overall arrangements and ensured food and refreshments; team leaders guided rehearsals and assisted with costumes; the photographer captured precious moments; the host professionally led the event; and volunteers quietly supported transportation, logistics, and the venue. Everyone played their part, ensuring a successful performance.
This event not only brought warmth and joy to the residents but also demonstrated the Chinese community’s active engagement in society and promotion of multicultural exchange, highlighting the unique value of seniors and youth participating together in community activities.
