On Friday, May 1, activities of the Home and Beauty Seniors Association continued as usual 😊 On that day, Chris, the Manager of Mississauga Valley Community Centre, brought us newly purchased table tennis balls, paddles, net equipment, and chess sets to support senior community activities. Members were very happy to see the new equipment. Everyone gathered together to chat, explore, and enjoy the activities in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. During the event, leaders of the seniors association also actively communicated and interacted with the community centre management regarding program arrangements, facility usage, and future development. These positive discussions further strengthened mutual understanding and trust, helping to build a strong foundation for future senior community activities. Mississauga Valley Community Centre has consistently shown strong support for our seniors programs. Community centre staff regularly take the initiative to understand our activity arrangements and facility needs, helping seniors feel warmth, care, and a sense of belonging while participating in activities there. The community centre also expressed willingness to continue supporting future large-scale celebrations and senior events. 1️⃣ Overview In the first quarter of 2026, the Home and Beauty Seniors Association continued to provide stable and comprehensive community services for local seniors. The organization focused on four core areas: health promotion, social participation, community support, and digital inclusion. The association primarily serves local Chinese seniors while actively participating in multicultural community events, promoting cross-cultural exchange and community integration, and enhancing seniors’ overall quality of life and social connectedness. 2️⃣ Service Delivery Model The association maintained a stable and regular operational system: – Approximately 4 activities per week – Multi-purpose space used for parallel programs – Activities covering health, culture, and social engagement programs include: Tai Chi, Ba Duan Jin (Eight-Section Brocade), yoga, dance, choir, band, table tennis, and chess. This model has effectively improved participation rates, continuity, and community interaction among seniors. 3️⃣ Key Outcomes 🧑⚕️ Health Promotion (Core Focus) The association continued in-person health activities such as Tai Chi, Ba Duan Jin, and yoga, and newly promoted traditional Chinese waist drum (yaogu) activities. The waist drum program integrates rhythm and physical coordination training and provides multiple benefits: Improves balance and coordination Strengthens muscles and cardiovascular function Enhances cognitive engagement and attention Promotes social interaction and teamwork Increases motivation for continued community participation Supports healthy aging and active lifestyles This program integrates health promotion, social participation, and cultural heritage. 🧑🤝🧑 Community Support Services (New Initiative) The association provides approximately 3 hours per week of community support services, including: Medical and health resource information Government benefits and pension application assistance Social services and housing application guidance These services enhance seniors’ access to community resources and strengthen their independent living support systems. 🤝 Intergenerational Participation Youth participants (middle and high school students) and family members joined activities and performances, strengthening intergenerational interaction and community connection, while increasing vitality and diversity in programs. 🎭 Community Cultural Engagement & Public Performances During this quarter, the association actively participated in multiple performances at nursing homes and community events, providing seniors with public platforms for expression. These activities enriched cultural life, significantly enhanced social participation and self-worth, and strengthened interaction and understanding between different community groups, helping reduce social isolation. 📱 Digital Inclusion Basic smartphone and digital literacy support was provided to help seniors improve digital skills and better adapt to modern information-based daily life. 4️⃣ Community Resource Support With community support, the association improved its facilities: Added chess and table tennis equipment to increase capacity Optimized use of activity spaces Improved overall participation experience and facility efficiency 5️⃣ Overall Impact Summary In the first quarter of 2026, the association achieved positive results in: – Improving seniors’ physical and mental health and quality of life – Strengthening social participation and community belonging – Providing accessible community support services – Reducing the digital divide – Promoting intergenerational and multicultural integration Overall, the association played a positive role in reducing social isolation among seniors, strengthening community connection, and promoting healthy aging. 6️⃣ Future Development Outlook Going forward, the association will continue to focus on: – Health promotion programs (Tai Chi, Ba Duan Jin, yoga, and waist drum activities) Expansion and deepening of community support services – Continued digital skills training – Development of intergenerational and volunteer systems – Multicultural community exchange activities The goal is to build a long-term, stable, and socially impactful comprehensive senior support platform.

Leaders Visit with Care, Jiahemay Senior Association Brings Warmth to Seniors
February 6, 2026 – Mississauga
Member of Parliament Peter Fonseca visited the Jiahemay Senior Association , interacting with nearly one hundred seniors and exchanging views on community development and senior care.
During the visit, MP Fonseca personally distributed Lunar New Year red envelopes to the seniors. He also joined a friendly table tennis match, watched and tried the traditional Yangge dance with octagonal scarves, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere.
In the discussion session, seniors shared their concerns about healthcare, housing, and social benefits, while also expressing their hopes for the well-being of the younger generation and the future of the community. MP Fonseca listened attentively, introduced relevant federal government policies, and promised to bring the voices of seniors back to Parliament.
Starting immediately, the Association has begun collaborating with Peel Multicultural Council to provide free one-stop consultation services every Friday, including:
Senior benefits and subsidy applications
Applications for government-subsidized housing
Information on nursing homes and long-term care
Medical and dental benefits and assistance with form completion
New immigrant and community resource services
Association President Jack Zhang said: “MP Fonseca’s visit is both recognition and encouragement for us to continue building a warm and welcoming home that seniors can truly rely on.”
The Jiahemay Senior Association will continue to organize diverse programs including cultural activities, health initiatives, and community services, contributing to the well-being of seniors and the broader community.
元宵送暖演出圆满结束 2月27日下午,我们义工团队前往 Silverthorn Care Community 在 Mississauga 举行元宵慰问演出。当天有二十多位义工参加,包括摄影师与音响师,大家齐心协力,为院内长者带来温馨与欢乐。 本次活动是春节期间的第五场演出,也是我们走访三家养老院后的最后一站。老人家们积极互动,现场氛围热烈感人。通过歌舞与陪伴,我们共同度过了一个特别又温暖的元宵节。 我们每年都会走进养老院进行5-6次慰问演出,将温暖与关怀持续传递。期待下一次再与大家同行。
Lantern Festival Performance Successfully Concluded
On the afternoon of February 27th, our volunteer team visited Silverthorn Care Community in Mississauga to hold a Lantern Festival performance. More than twenty volunteers participated, including photographers and sound engineers. Everyone worked together to bring warmth and joy to the residents.
This was our fifth performance during the Spring Festival period and the last stop after visiting three nursing homes. The elderly residents actively participated, creating a warm and touching atmosphere. Through song, dance, and companionship, we spent a special and heartwarming Lantern Festival together.
We visit nursing homes 5-6 times a year to perform and spread warmth and care. We look forward to joining you again next time.
On February 22nd, the Jiahemay Senior Association was invited by the Brampton Chinese Culture Association to participate in the Brampton community’s Lantern Festival celebration. Mayor Patrick Brown and representatives from the city government attended and distributed red envelopes to residents, creating a lively festive atmosphere.
The Jiahemay Senior Association presented three performances: a Xinjiang dance, “A Glass of Fine Wine," a classical dance, “Ascending Spring Mountain," and a combination dance, “The Horizon." The diverse and distinctive performances won enthusiastic applause from the audience, and many residents spontaneously took photos and videos to capture the memorable moments.
The event received positive feedback from the community, with many residents expressing their appreciation and recognition of the association’s performance. This participation further strengthened the association’s connection with the community and showcased its efforts and vision in cultural philanthropy and community service to a wider audience.
The Jiahemay Senior Association will continue its commitment to promoting Chinese culture, actively participating in local events, and contributing to the multicultural development of the community.
Welcoming the God of Wealth · Jiahemay Seniors Association’s Chinese New Year Performance Warms the Hearts of Seniors
On February 20, the traditional Chinese festival of Welcoming the God of Wealth, the Jiahemay Seniors Association brought more than 20 performers to Chartwell Robert Speck Retirement Residence, delivering a Lunar New Year performance for about 30 seniors. The residents, ranging from 65 to over 80 years old, were fully immersed in the joyful festive atmosphere.
The show featured 12 programs. Performers dressed in vibrant red festive costumes and colorful Hanfu, presenting a variety of dances including Northeast Yangko and Xinjiang folk dance. The seniors showed great interest in Chinese culture, expressing admiration for Tai Chi movements, folk dances, and traditional costumes. Laughter and applause filled the room throughout the performance.

To celebrate the traditional Chinese Minor New Year, the Jiahemay Senior Association and Xin Tiandi Association jointly hosted a “Spring Festival Gathering,” attracting about 150 community members. The venue was decorated festively, with red lanterns hanging high, creating a lively atmosphere full of the Spring Festival spirit.
The event featured 20 programs, including singing and dancing, choral performances, solo singing, Tai Chi, skits, recitations, and band performances. Emphasizing participation by all, most members performed themselves, reflecting the community’s active engagement and spirit of cultural sharing.
The presidents of both associations attended the event and extended Spring Festival greetings to all participants. This tea gathering not only enriched the community’s cultural life but also strengthened community cohesion, showcasing the two associations’ organizational capacity and contribution to cultural promotion and community service.
Heartwarming Moments from the Lunar New Year Performance at a Senior Residence On February 3, we presented a Lunar New Year performance at Erin Mills Lodge senior residence, featuring a total of 12 outstanding performers,The atmosphere was warm and lively, with seniors actively engaging throughout the show. Even audience members in wheelchairs joined in by moving along to the music. The final performance was especially impressive and received unanimous praise from everyone present. This successful event was made possible by the dedication and support of our performers, hosts, photographers, drivers, logistics team, and volunteers. Our President, Qiquan Zhang (Jack), set up the sound system in advance, while Wendy Luk assisted with on-site coordination and logistics. Every volunteer contributed wholeheartedly to ensure the smooth running of the performance.
The senior residence spoke highly of the performance and has already scheduled our next visit for September. Our association organizes 5–6 performances at senior residences each year, using the arts to bring joy to older adults while allowing participants to experience the warmth and meaning of community service.

🏮 Jiahemay Senior Association – 2026 Spring Festival Gala Report 🏮
On January 16, 2026 (Friday), Jiahemay Senior Association successfully held its 2026 Spring Festival Gala at LC Taylor Hall, Mississauga Valley Community Centre.
The event began with all attendees standing for the singing of the Canadian national anthem, followed by a welcome address from the Association President. The address highlighted the Association’s ongoing efforts in serving seniors, promoting cultural heritage, and fostering community integration. Member of Parliament Mr. Peter Fonseca was invited to attend the event and presented the Association with a Certificate of Appreciation, recognizing its long-term contributions to the community and to senior services.
More than 100 performers participated in the gala, with an average age of over 70, including several participants aged over 80. The program featured a rich variety of performances, including Tai Chi, live band performances, choir singing, and dance, showcasing the seniors’ positive spirit, active lifestyles, and commitment to physical and mental well-being.
The Tai Chi performance was one of the highlights of the event. Over 30 seniors, dressed in elegant white Tai Chi uniforms, performed movements that were fluid, balanced, and powerful, demonstrating the unique charm of traditional Chinese wellness culture and reflecting the harmony between health and vitality.
The band and choir performances were presented throughout the program. Performers wore coordinated red outfits and sang songs in both English and Chinese. Their confident stage presence and harmonious performances were warmly received by the audience, earning enthusiastic applause.
The dance performanceswere diverse in style, ranging from graceful Hanfu dances to lively folk dances. The overall program was well-organized, smoothly connected, and rich in artistic expression, with each performance showcasing its own unique character.
The success of the event was made possible by the dedicated efforts of our volunteers, who arrived early to set up the venue, assisted performers backstage, maintained order, and handled photography, videography, and video production. Their commitment provided strong support for the smooth execution of the gala.
This Spring Festival Gala not only offered seniors a platform to showcase their talents, but also strengthened community cohesion through the integration of cultural arts and health-focused activities. The event promoted multicultural exchange and further demonstrated the important social role of Jiahemay Senior Association in serving seniors, preserving cultural heritage, and encouraging active community participation.
