On September 10, the Jiahemay Senior Association held the second session of the “Golden Melody series “. The class took place in a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere. Under the guidance of the instructor, participants not only sang familiar classic songs but also engaged in rhythm exercises using hand claps, foot taps, drumming, and vocal cues. The session was lively, with members actively participating, which helped improve their memory and coordination while fostering interaction and enjoyment through music.
This series consists of ten lessons in total, aiming to provide seniors with both physical and mental enjoyment as well as a strengthened sense of community.
On September 3, with the support of the City of Mississauga, the Jiahemay Senior Association successfully launched the Golden Melody series (10 sessions in total). The first session attracted nearly 50 seniors to participate enthusiastically, with 9 volunteers providing full support to ensure that every participant could join smoothly.
Through interactive music and rhythm activities, seniors enjoyed a joyful atmosphere while experiencing the fun of music. The program also helps to enhance cognitive abilities, physical coordination, and flexibility, while fostering social interaction and a sense of belonging. Laughter filled the room, and participants expressed their eagerness to join the remaining 9 sessions.
This project aims to encourage seniors to actively participate in community life, make new friends, strengthen their sense of belonging, and improve both physical and mental well-being. The successful launch of the first session laid a solid foundation for the series and demonstrated the project’s value in supporting active aging and community integration.
On August 27, 2025, the Jiahemay Senior Association held a successful cultural performance at Silverthorn Care Community. The performers ranged in age from teenagers to seniors over 80, showcasing intergenerational participation and cultural heritage.
The audience at the care home was fully engaged, nodding, applauding, smiling, and even interacting with the performers. This marked the association’s third visit to the facility, and they have been invited again to bring more joy and care during the Lunar New Year.
The smooth execution of the performance was made possible by the hard work behind the scenes. The president personally assisted members with transportation and prepared the sound system; the vice president coordinated overall arrangements and ensured food and refreshments; team leaders guided rehearsals and assisted with costumes; the photographer captured precious moments; the host professionally led the event; and volunteers quietly supported transportation, logistics, and the venue. Everyone played their part, ensuring a successful performance.
This event not only brought warmth and joy to the residents but also demonstrated the Chinese community’s active engagement in society and promotion of multicultural exchange, highlighting the unique value of seniors and youth participating together in community activities.

On June 20th, the Jiahemay Senior Association organized over 100 members to participate in the City of Mississauga’s summer outdoor kickoff event at Mississauga Valley Park. The event drew approximately 800 attendees and was filled with vibrant energy.
The festivities began with our band performing well-known classics like Jingle Bells, creating a cheerful and lively atmosphere for everyone.
For the official program, Jiahemay had the honor of opening the event. Accompanied by our live band, our dance and Tai Chi teams joined members in a heartfelt group performance of the Canadian national anthem—an emotional and respectful moment. This was followed by a powerful and synchronized Tai Chi demonstration that received enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Our members also actively joined in interactive activities throughout the day, including circle dancing, line dancing, square dancing, and yoga, showcasing their vitality and passion. The park was filled with laughter and joy.
Our performance was so well-received that four different cultural groups invited us on the spot to participate in their upcoming events—further affirming Jiahemay Senior Association’s growing influence in promoting multicultural exchange.
