Heartwarming Moments from the Lunar New Year Performance at a Senior Residence On February 3, we presented a Lunar New Year performance at Erin Mills Lodge senior residence, featuring a total of 12 outstanding performers,The atmosphere was warm and lively, with seniors actively engaging throughout the show. Even audience members in wheelchairs joined in by moving along to the music. The final performance was especially impressive and received unanimous praise from everyone present. This successful event was made possible by the dedication and support of our performers, hosts, photographers, drivers, logistics team, and volunteers. Our President, Qiquan Zhang (Jack), set up the sound system in advance, while Wendy Luk assisted with on-site coordination and logistics. Every volunteer contributed wholeheartedly to ensure the smooth running of the performance.
The senior residence spoke highly of the performance and has already scheduled our next visit for September. Our association organizes 5–6 performances at senior residences each year, using the arts to bring joy to older adults while allowing participants to experience the warmth and meaning of community service.

🏮 Jiahemay Senior Association – 2026 Spring Festival Gala Report 🏮
On January 16, 2026 (Friday), Jiahemay Senior Association successfully held its 2026 Spring Festival Gala at LC Taylor Hall, Mississauga Valley Community Centre.
The event began with all attendees standing for the singing of the Canadian national anthem, followed by a welcome address from the Association President. The address highlighted the Association’s ongoing efforts in serving seniors, promoting cultural heritage, and fostering community integration. Member of Parliament Mr. Peter Fonseca was invited to attend the event and presented the Association with a Certificate of Appreciation, recognizing its long-term contributions to the community and to senior services.
More than 100 performers participated in the gala, with an average age of over 70, including several participants aged over 80. The program featured a rich variety of performances, including Tai Chi, live band performances, choir singing, and dance, showcasing the seniors’ positive spirit, active lifestyles, and commitment to physical and mental well-being.
The Tai Chi performance was one of the highlights of the event. Over 30 seniors, dressed in elegant white Tai Chi uniforms, performed movements that were fluid, balanced, and powerful, demonstrating the unique charm of traditional Chinese wellness culture and reflecting the harmony between health and vitality.
The band and choir performances were presented throughout the program. Performers wore coordinated red outfits and sang songs in both English and Chinese. Their confident stage presence and harmonious performances were warmly received by the audience, earning enthusiastic applause.
The dance performanceswere diverse in style, ranging from graceful Hanfu dances to lively folk dances. The overall program was well-organized, smoothly connected, and rich in artistic expression, with each performance showcasing its own unique character.
The success of the event was made possible by the dedicated efforts of our volunteers, who arrived early to set up the venue, assisted performers backstage, maintained order, and handled photography, videography, and video production. Their commitment provided strong support for the smooth execution of the gala.
This Spring Festival Gala not only offered seniors a platform to showcase their talents, but also strengthened community cohesion through the integration of cultural arts and health-focused activities. The event promoted multicultural exchange and further demonstrated the important social role of Jiahemay Senior Association in serving seniors, preserving cultural heritage, and encouraging active community participation.

Jiahemay Senior Association 2026 Annual General Meeting Summary
The Jiahemay Senior Association held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on January 9, 2026, at 10 am, at the Mississauga Valley Community Centre (LC Taylor Hall), with approximately 60 members in attendance.
During the meeting, President Qiquan Zhang (Jack) presented the Association’s 2025 Annual Work Summary. Vice President and Treasurer Haimeng Luk (Wendy) delivered the 2025 Financial Report and provided an update on newly added association activities.
All reports were reviewed and approved by the members by acclamation. The President also expressed appreciation for the dedication and contributions of the Association’s volunteers, recognizing their important role in supporting the Association’s activities and community engagement.
The meeting was conducted in an orderly manner and concluded successfully.
The Association looks forward to continued growth in 2026 and remains committed to providing meaningful programs and services for seniors in the community.

Jiahemay Dance Team Invited to Perform at Xin Tiandi Seniors Association Christmas Tea Gathering
On December 22, 2024, the Jiahemay Dance Team was invited by the Xin Tiandi Seniors Association to attend its Christmas Tea Gathering and present a cultural performance for seniors at the event. The team performed the ethnic dance “Soma Flower”, adding color and vitality to the holiday celebration.
The atmosphere at the event was warm and cheerful. The graceful and expressive dance performance enriched the program, brought joy and meaningful festive moments to the seniors, and further promoted cultural exchange and emotional connection between community organizations.
🎄 Jiahemay Seniors Association Invited to the Mississauga Valley Christmas Community Dinner
This year, the Jiahemay Seniors Association was once again invited by the Mississauga Valley Community Center to attend its annual Christmas community dinner. Being invited year after year is not only a recognition of our work from the community and the city government, but also a gesture of support and encouragement for our seniors’ group.
Amid warm lighting and festive decorations, seniors from different countries and cultural backgrounds gathered to share delicious food, exchange laughter, and enjoy the warmth and joy of the holiday season. For everyone, this was more than just a dinner—it was a heartfelt expression of care from the community, bringing people closer together during the cold winter months.
The Jiahemay Seniors Association will continue to strive to bring more healthy, energetic, and heartwarming activities to seniors in our community.
To help everyone plan ahead, we are pleased to share our main activity schedule for early 2026 as follows:
Major Events
1. Annual General Meeting (AGM) Date: Friday, January 9, 9:15 a.m. Venue: Mississauga Valley Community Center – LC Taylor Hall Content: Presentation of the 2025 annual activity and financial reports and introduction of the 2026 work plan.
2. Spring Festival Gala Date: Friday, January 16, 9:30 a.m. Content: The association’s largest annual cultural event featuring a variety of performances. Special Note: Government officials and community guests will be invited to join us in celebrating the Lunar New Year and welcoming a new beginning together.
3. Lunar New Year Community Outreach Performances Date: February Content: The association will organize a volunteer performance team to visit local senior residences and long-term care homes, bringing festive greetings and warm wishes to the elderly. Remarks: This is a volunteer-based activity. Participants will be coordinated by the association.
Cultural and Educational Programs
In addition to cultural performances, our association regularly hosts lectures and cultural-education activities. For example, Currently, we are presenting the “ “Jiahemay Golden Melody Series” used music and rhythm to enrich seniors’ lives, promote physical and mental well-being, and strengthen social interaction and community engagement.

On October 11, Jiahemay Senior Association was invited by the Brampton Chinese Association to perform at the Brampton Food Festival. Our team presented five wonderful programs, bringing joy and energy to the event. The lively performances received warm applause from the audience. Local councillors and community leaders attended the event and highly praised our performances. We sincerely thank the Brampton Chinese Association for their kind invitation and strong support.
This summer, Jiahemay Seniors Association actively participated in community events, from nursing home visits to local cultural festivals. On September 21, we joined the Mississauga Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival at Square One Shopping Centre, one of the city’s largest annual celebrations attracting thousands of visitors.
Our association presented four dance performances and two band pieces, showcasing the talents of our senior members. A special highlight came from two young performers, aged 10 and 13, who played SexPhone and clarinet alongside their grandparents. Their lively presence added youthful energy to the stage and beautifully reflected our mission of connecting generations and strengthening community bonds.

On August 27, 2025, the Jiahemay Senior Association held a successful cultural performance at Silverthorn Care Community. The performers ranged in age from teenagers to seniors over 80, showcasing intergenerational participation and cultural heritage.
The audience at the care home was fully engaged, nodding, applauding, smiling, and even interacting with the performers. This marked the association’s third visit to the facility, and they have been invited again to bring more joy and care during the Lunar New Year.
The smooth execution of the performance was made possible by the hard work behind the scenes. The president personally assisted members with transportation and prepared the sound system; the vice president coordinated overall arrangements and ensured food and refreshments; team leaders guided rehearsals and assisted with costumes; the photographer captured precious moments; the host professionally led the event; and volunteers quietly supported transportation, logistics, and the venue. Everyone played their part, ensuring a successful performance.
This event not only brought warmth and joy to the residents but also demonstrated the Chinese community’s active engagement in society and promotion of multicultural exchange, highlighting the unique value of seniors and youth participating together in community activities.
